When rung, the Liberty Bell's note is E flat. However, due to expansion of the crack, by 1846 the bell was deemed unsuitable for ringing, although it has been ceremoniously tapped on important occasions. For example, on June 6,1944, when Allied forces invaded France, the sound of the bell was broadcast by radio throughout the U.S. The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American Independence. In 1776, bells were rung to mark the reading of the Declaration of Independence, and most historians believe the Liberty Bell was one of the bells rung. The Liberty Bell gained iconic importance when abolitionists working to put an end to slavery throughout America adopted it as a symbol. This fine Liberty Bell reproduction is 4 1/4" high, 4 1/2" wide, 3 3/8" deep, and is made of die cast metal with a working clapper on a wooden base. History of Liberty Bell on bottom of base.
